]]>An accomplished presenter, dancer, actress, and entertainer, the 54-year-old Sonia Kruger is no stranger to the spotlight. She has been gracing TV screens for years now, and yet she is tenacious and unstoppable.
The versatile anchor is slated to host Seven’s reboot of Big Brother and will bring home the Tokyo Olympics coverage this year. Hosting duties aside, Kruger will join the judging panel in season 10 of Australia’s Got Talent.
Kruger, who celebrates her birthday on 28 August, is also a creator of a dance-based fitness and nutritional program, Strictly You, which she launched last year. The subscription-based app offers realistic workouts and achievable healthy meal plans for everyone, depending on their fitness level.
Born in Toowoomba, Queensland, to father Adrian and mother Margaret, Kruger grew up with her sister Debbie and brother Adam. Her father died in June 2015 at the age of 80 after a long battle with heart problems.
While coping with the death of her father, Kruger said:
‘Even though we all know we’re not going to have our parents forever, you’re still never ready for it. And even if you know it’s coming, it just completely blindsides you.’
Since the tender age of four, Kruger has been entertaining audiences with her Ballroom and Latin American dancing skills. She has even represented Australia at the Amateur British Ballroom Championships.
Her dancing talent led her to land the coveted role of Tina Sparkle in the AFI Award-Winning film Strictly Ballroom. She taught dance at NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) for over four years.
After graduating with an Arts degree from Sydney’s University of Technology, Kruger began working as an entertainment reporter for Seven’s morning and news show at 11 AM. Later, she hosted numerous programs for Seven’s network, including Today Tonight, Dancing with the Stars, 10 Years Younger in 10 Days, and Sunday Night.

In 2012, Kruger moved to the Nine Network and became a part of the Big Brother journey for three years. At Nine Network, she hosted popular shows like The Voice Australia, Today Extra, and Helloworld.
After Kruger’s return to the Seven Network in 2020, CEO James Warburton praised her, saying:
“Sonia is one of the best television talents in Australia. I speak on behalf of the entire Seven team when I say that Sonia was the one that got away.”
The 5-foot-7 Kruger reportedly receives more than $1 million a year for leaving Channel Nine and joining Seven Network.
Kruger lives happily with her partner Craig McPherson, and their five-year-old daughter Maggie, on her $6.5 million Mosman, Sydney home. She has been dating Craig since 2008, and she conceived her daughter through IVF at the age of 49.
Previously, Kruger was married to a British-born banker James Davies for six years from 2002 to 2008.

]]>Long ago, the TV segment used to air almost seven days a week, escorted by 24/7 live streaming on the internet. That’s how viewers connected to the contestants of ‘Big Brother’ back then. In the same way, the fourth season of ‘Big Brother’ made the audiences form a close-knit with Bree Amer.
Howsoever, she felt the popular reality show’s reboot on Channel Seven serves lack of content, though the new format is lively and refreshing.
“It needed to come back refreshed. [The old format] was a bit tired and we’re a bit past that. Reality TV has progressed so much,”

At the same time, she sensed something odd about the show. She binged every episode but couldn’t link the dots when Sophie Budak went for Chad Hurst all of a sudden.
“Sophie [Budack] jumped into bed with Chad [Hurst] and kissed him, I was like, “What?! Where did that come from?”
“Because you don’t have the context or the hours to binge beforehand.”
Amer pointed out the tight spot on the reboot version, where audiences could see only limited content. Hence, it led to the low connectivity between audiences and housemates, unlike prior seasons, which notably aired round the clock.
“I think because we do only see a little bit of it [in the new series], I don’t feel as connected to any of those housemates. I don’t care about them as much”
37, Bree Amer was in the constant call to hold hosting responsibilities of the spin-off series, Friday Night Live following the reality show, ‘Big Brother.’ And the show turned fortunate for Amer when a doctor from Wollongong noted a suspicious lump on her neck. The doctor incurred almost $400 in calling Mike Goldman’s Up Late show’s competition line to alert the former Big Brother housemate about a lump in the neck, which she had never noticed.
Amer cast her mind back to the day when she hosted Friday Night Live in 2006.
“When I turned my head on the [Friday Night Live] panel, a lump protruded out of my neck – I had an inch and a half tumor that I never noticed”
Fortunately, the duo kept in touch with one another, and a year later, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The lump turned out to be a scary thing. She labeled herself lucky to be in touch with the doctor, who noticed the protruded lump promptly on the TV screen. Amer underwent two surgeries and radioactive iodine treatment in due course. She is completely out of danger, yet she needs ‘monitoring with checkups every six months.’

She took a 180-degree shift from a TV personality to a TV producer. On the Mike podcast in October 2018, Amer revealed she was interested in producing since the early days, so she went for her dreams despite the faint start. She has work experiences in the street casting for the show World’s Strictest Parents as well as fetching contestants for My Kitchen Rules. Amer also includes testimonials of five seasons of MKR, The Bachelor, Bringing Sexy Back, and Zumbo’s Just Desserts.
Even her husband, Evan Wilkes, is a producer of Channel Seven’s ‘Bride and Prejudice.’ With a dream job hand in hand, the couple is parents of two children- a son, Hunter, and a daughter, Harlow.
