He Met His Wife at a Comedy Gig
Bill has been married to his beautiful wife, Kristin Bailey, for quite a long time. The duo first met at one of the comedian’s gigs in 1987. At the time, Kristin was managing a bar in Edinburgh. Bill recalled getting attracted to Kristin’s “wild spirit” and said:
“She had a very distinctive style.”
“She had this long brocade coat, and I realised she was a free spirit and did her own thing. We ended up chatting away, and all went to a party, and she put me up on her sofa.”
Although the duo did not immediately date, they kept in contact through letters for an entire year. Eventually, they tied the knot in 1998 in Indonesia.
The pair share a son, Dax, born in 2003. The family of three resides in a large house in Hammersmith, London.
Started as a Stand-up Comedian
Bill started his career as a stand-up comedian and toured with the likes of Mark Lamar. He also formed a double act, the Rubber Bishops, with Toby Longworth in 1984. Toby was later replaced by Martin Stubbs, who left for a more serious career.
In 1994, the comedian performed Rock at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and went solo with the one-man show, Bill Bailey’s Cosmic Jam. He won the Best Live Stand-Up award in 1999. He even starred in his TV show, Is It Bill Bailey? in 1998.
Bill has also appeared on Tygo Road, Wild West, Black Books, and Long Run. He has appeared on other shows, including Never Mind if the Buzzcocks, QI, and Have I Got News for You. In 2020, Bill became the winner for the eighteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing with his partner, Oti Mabuse.
