Nick Saban is one of the biggest names when it comes to football coaches for Universities. He has been serving as the head coach of the University of Alabama since 2007 and holds a career record of 254-65-1. Nick had also coached for many other Universities, including Michigan State and Toledo. He is the first coach in college football history to win a national championship with two Football Bowl subdivisions.

Nick was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Along with a successful coaching career, he has a supportive wife with whom he has been married for nearly 50 years.

Married for Nearly 50 Years

The Alabama coach is happily married to his beautiful wife, Terry Saban. The pair tied the knot in 1971 and has been together ever since.

The couple first met at a science camp in the seventh grade. According to Nick, the duo watched Gone With the Wind on their first date in 1968 and tied the knot three years later on December 18.

Nick and his wife are blessed with three children- Nicholas Saban, Kristen Saban Setas and Wyatt. They also have a couple of grandchildren.

Terry has been a supportive wife to Nick, and she has appeared in many games and postgame press conferences. The duo also co-founded the Nick’s Kids Foundation. They celebrated their 49th anniversary in December of 2020.

Nick’s Career as a Coach

Nick started his coaching career as an assistant coach for Syracuse University, West Virginia University, Ohio State University, the Naval Academy, and Michigan State University. Later, he became the head coach for the University of Toledo in 1989, and the team was transformed instantly, only losing two games in the 1990 season. However, Nick resigned after one season and joined the Cleveland Browns as a defensive coordinator.

Later, Nick became the new head coach for Michigan State University just before the 1995 season. He then joined LSU and led the Tigers to a BSC National Championship. In 2004, he returned to the NFL as the new head coach for the Miami Dolphins.

Soon after, Nick returned to college football and became the head coach for the Crimson Tide. He led the team to the SEC Championship game and won several Coach of the Year awards. Likewise, the team won back-to-back national championships and achieved top rankings, amassing several additional championship titles.

In 2020, Alabama University secured their SEC West division title and finished the regular season undefeated. The win made Nick the first coach to win ten conference games in a season and Alabama’s 13th consecutive 10-win season.

Nick was a Quarterback

Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. was born in 1951 in Fairmount, West Virginia. He celebrates his birthday on October 31, which makes his age 69. He was born to parents – Mary and Nick Low Saban Sr.

Nick and his sister, Dianna, graduated from Monongah High School. He played quarterback on the 1968 West Virginia state championship team. He graduated from Kent State University and earned his master’s degree in sports administration.
