‘The Tinder Swindler,’ a true-crime documentary on Netflix, chronicles the terrible story of Shimon Hayut, an Israeli conman who used the dating app to target his victims before defrauding them out of thousands of dollars. From 2017 onwards, he pretended to be Simon Leviev, the non-existent son of a real-life billionaire diamond mogul, which allowed him to weave a complex web of falsehoods and deceptions to deceive multiple women.
Cecilie Fjellhoy was one of them, so if you want to learn everything there is to know about her, we’ve got you covered.
How Shimon Hayut Defrauded Cecilie Fjellhoy?
Cecilie Schroder Fjellhoy met Simon Leviev on Tinder in January 2018, only to meet him for coffee the next day at the five-star hotel he was staying at in London. She expected it to be a brief encounter due to his obvious jet-set lifestyle, but she never expected him to invite her to Bulgaria for their first date.
Simon stated he wanted to get to know her better, and Cecilie excitedly consented, feeling as if she’d just stepped into one of the fairytale films she loved as a kid.
Cecilie honestly felt that things with Simon would naturally die out because he’d never be around again when she returned, yet they managed to keep in touch virtually every day. In fact, he kept her up to date on his whereabouts at all times.
Simon even surprised Cecilie with flowers and in-person encounters whenever possible, allowing them to make their relationship official within a month. That’s when the alleged billionaire told his new partner about his “adversaries'” “threats” to his life and how everyone’s safety was a major issue.
Cecilie, like a good girlfriend, agreed to assist in any way she could, oblivious to the fact that it would result in a tremendous debt for her. Simon’s first and only request to his girlfriend was financial assistance, which he received frequently and in large sums, forcing her to take out at least eight or nine loans.
Simon had assured Cecilie that he’d repay her, all the while talking about a future together, only for her to learn that everything he’d showed or said to her was a lie. She immediately cut off contact with Simon, and then checked herself into a psychiatric ward because his threats and the $200,000+ debt had made her consider suicide.
Cecilie, on the other hand, made it through and chose to bring him down by telling her story to the rest of the world.
Where is Cecilie Fjellhøy Now?
Cecilie Fjellhoy, a Norwegian whose life had been turned upside down in England, continues to live in London, where she remains steadfast in not only her convictions but also in who she is.
Despite the fact that Cecilie looks to be paying off her debt, she is attempting to live her best life so that Simon will never have a long-term impact on her.
According to Cecilie’s Instagram bio, she is the founder of action: reaction (a non-profit organization that raises awareness on frauds) in addition to working as a Senior UX and Service Designer at Sopra Steria (a Paris-based software company)
