Rochelle Walensky is the director of the C.D.C. and the administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Previously, she served as a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. She was also the Chief of the Division of Infectious Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Rochelle has been happily married to Loren D. Walensky since 1995. Her husband is also a well-educated person like her as he is a physician-scientist. She met Loren for the first time while studying at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

The C.D.C. head’s husband has been a pediatric oncologist at the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center since 2003. He is also a professor of pediatrics at the Dana–Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.

Together, the couple shares three sons. Rochelle has not revealed much about her family. But the C.D.C. director has shared some photos of her family on Twitter.

Rochelle participated in the Massachusetts General Hospital/Birmingham and Women’s Hospital Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. She earned an M.P.H. in clinical effectiveness from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2001. Since then, she has been on the faculty, starting as an instructor and later as a professor.

Likewise, Rochelle was also the Chair of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council at the National Institutes of Health from 2014 to 2015. Besides, she has been a member of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Panel since 2011.

Moreover, Rochelle is on the board of directors of MassGeneral Birmingham Hospital and has been the co-director of the Medical Practice Evaluation Center at Massachusetts General Hospital since 2011. On December 7, 2020, The Biden transition announced her presumptive nomination as C.D.C. director. The decision received praise from doctors and public health experts.

Rochelle Paula Walensky was born in 1969 in Peabody, Massachusetts. She celebrates her birthday on April 5, which makes her age 52. She was born to Carol Bersoff-Bernstein and Edward H. Bersoff.

Rochelle graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1991 with a B.A. in biochemistry and molecular biology. She earned an M.D. from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1995 and trained at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
