Tayla Vlaeminck is an Australian cricketer who plays for Australia, Victoria, and Hobart Hurricanes. She is one of Australia’s most talented fast bowlers and is also one of their fastest in the current crop. She is capable of hitting the 120 kph mark from time to time.

Tayla has been ruled out of the Ashes and the upcoming Women’s World Cup in yet another devastating fracture in her right foot – similar to the one that ruled her out of the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Here is everything you need to know about the Australia Women’s fast bowler.

“We’re obviously very proud of the journey she has had to take to get here and her relentless determination to succeed.”

Tayla is one of three children born to her parents. She has a sister named Ellie and a brother whose name remains unknown.

Tayla Vlaeminck’s Professional Career

Tayla was signed by the Melbourne Renegades ahead of the 2016/17 Women’s Big Bash League season, although she did not appear in any of the matches.

She was signed by Victorian Spirit prior to the 2017 Women’s National Cricket League season, and in her debut match, she picked up two wickets for 34 runs in seven overs. She went on to play for the Cricket Australia XI against England a month later.

Following her outstanding performances for Victoria, Tayla earned a spot in the squad for the Under-19 tour to South Africa in 2018. In Pretoria, the all-rounder looked brilliant, taking 5 for 32 against South Africa. In the series finale, she once again played an important role with the ball, taking six wickets for 27 runs to absolutely devastate the opponents.

Tayla was named to the World Twenty20I squad to face New Zealand the following year. She did not, however, appear in the series. She made her ODI debut against Pakistan Women in October 2018, and WT20I debut against India Women the following month in the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20.

For the 2018-19 Women’s Big Bash League season, Tayla was named in the Melbourne Renegades’ squad. She made her Test debut for Australia against England women in July 2019. She was named in the Australian squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2020, but she was ruled out of the tournament because of an injury to her right foot.

Tayla Vlaeminck’s Injuries

In early 2015, Tayla ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament. She suffered a second ACL injury, in the form of a partial tear, just two matches after a full recovery. But she kept on playing for two months until the ACL ruptured again.

Tayla was signed by the Melbourne Renegades for the 2016–17 Women’s Big Bash League while she was recovering from her second injury. In late November 2017, she dislocated her shoulder, which prevented her from playing for the Renegades in WBBL|03.

During the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia, Tayla suffered a stress injury on her right foot, and she was ruled out of the tournament. She returned to international cricket on Australia’s tour of New Zealand in 2021. Unfortunately, she’ll miss a second straight World Cup that follows in New Zealand this year as well as the remainder of the ongoing Ashes as she suffered another stress fracture in her right foot during the second T20I against England.
